Emergency Dental Care
Severe dental pain that disrupts your daily activities or prevents sleep is considered a dental emergency and should be addressed immediately. If you’re experiencing intense pain, follow these steps:
- Contact us as soon as possible to schedule an emergency appointment.
- Take Nurofen (ibuprofen-based pain relief)—avoid Nurofen Plus or any medication containing codeine.
- After three hours, take Panadol (paracetamol-based pain relief).
- Continue alternating ibuprofen and paracetamol every three hours for effective pain management.
Why Immediate Treatment Matters
Dental pain is often a sign of an underlying issue that requires prompt attention. Early treatment can prevent minor problems from becoming more serious.
- Toothaches may be caused by bacterial infections reaching the tooth root, potentially leading to painful abscesses and bone infections.
- Gum disease can cause pain and, if untreated, may lead to jawbone deterioration.
Fractured teeth can expose nerves, leading to intense pain and infection if left untreated. - Wisdom teeth issues can cause pain, infection, and affect nearby teeth and gums—particularly when they don’t fully emerge, making them difficult to clean properly.
Unlike many dental issues that can be prevented with good oral hygiene, wisdom teeth problems often require professional treatment.
